This is a fun, quick and easy girls' night or group project.
We etched our baking dishes at an Enrichment night titled "At Your Service".
Instructions:
~ Glass Dish Vinyl/Etching Instructions ~
Positioning the Vinyl Stencil
- Clean surface of dish.
- Carefully remove backing from vinyl stencil (the white part on the back), making sure all tiny parts stay on transfer tape.
- Place vinyl sticky-side up on a table, and position dish over stencil.
- Burnish stencil with credit card or tongue-depresser. (rub over it)
- Carefully remove transfer tape. Be slow, and if vinyl starts to come up with transfer tape, lay back down and burnish that area again until it sticks.
- Rub over lettering with finger to make sure all tiny parts are firmly in place.
- Place masking or transfer tape around any narrow edges of stencil, creating a border so etching cream will not reach any parts of glass except for area you wish to stencil.
Etching the Glass
- With gloves on, dip narrow-end of cosmetic sponge into the etching cream and apply to stencil until thickness creates a filmy-white color.
- Be extremely careful not to touch cream to anything you don’t want etched – it works immediately! Be also very careful not to get cream on any part of your skin/eyes/hair.
- Let sit for 5 minutes.
- At a sink, rinse cosmetic sponge thoroughly; then use it to quickly rub off all cream. With gloves still on, rub all over dish with hands to make sure all cream has been removed.
- Remove vinyl and discard.
- Clean dish with glass cleaner.
- Now take a step back and admire….ooooooh!!!
